Ovarian cysts?

I’m 16 and get ovarian cysts frequently. About every 3 months I have one. I just recently had one that was worse than the others, even though I am on birth control to stop them. The doctor at the hospital said something about removing my whole right ovary. Is that necessary?
This may be a dumb question, but can I have kids if I do have my ovary removed?
