Ovarian cysts?
I’m 16 and get ovarian cysts frequently. About every 3 months I have one. I just recently had one that was worse than the others, even though I am on birth control to stop them. The doctor at the hospital said something about removing my whole right ovary. Is that necessary?
This may be a dumb question, but can I have kids if I do have my ovary removed?
There are other procedures other than removing your ovary. You can have the cysts removed and then laser the inside of the ovary. It will cause some discomfort, but I have heard it can keep the cysts at bay for years and restore fertility (that is when the bc pills will come in handy).
Birth control never worked for me to stop the cysts. And I know they can cause severe pain. As I got older, over 30 really, the cysts quit growing and I haven’t had one in a couple of years and have regular cycles too.
I would definitely not let the doctor remove my whole ovary unless it was completely necessary, and at your age, I wouldn’t think it would be.
Yes! Probaly if they are reoccuring, removing the right ovary may be the best option!
depends on type of cycst.mine was a torchon(spelling) cycst that twisted around fallopian tube ,very painfull.had it taken out last oct, thank god .i feel so much better. good luck
My mom had the same problem. In her case, it was necessary for them to stop. It’s called a hysterectomy.
The removal of your right ovary is NOT a hysterectomy. Overall, I’m sure it’s your choice to under go this, unless your doctor thinks you’re in danger of serious complications due to frequent cysts. The removal of one ovary will not make you sterile, but considering you would have one instead of two, you may have more trouble getting pregnant latter. Who knows? You could have no trouble with pregnancy down the road, or you may have to wait and work twice as hard. If birth control isn’t helping, this may be the next solution. Talk more with your doc and folks.
The removal of your ovary is NOT called a hysterectomy! I have had a hysterectomy when I was 25 years old for a 6 pound fibroid tumor. They are non cancerous by the way. You can still have children with one ovary. You would be just fine. My cousin had to have emergency surgery because she had a cyst on an ovary. She was just 12 years old! She had it removed because it was twisted around her ovary and caused a lot of bleeding and pain. It burst. ( her cyst) She now has two beautiful little boys and she is in her thirties. She hasn’t had any problems with the other ovary. I wouldn’t worry about it sweety. If the ovary has to come out….. consider yourself lucky if no cysts have formed on the other ovary. If they do…. adoption is wonderful! I have another cousin who is the mommy of 3 amazing kiddos. She was their for their births. They were all teenage unwanted pregnancies. Life can throw you some curve balls sweety and sometimes you are caught off guard without your catcher’s mit. I have had 8 strokes, two major car crashes, and I am disabled….. so I know. Life comes at you fast so take your time being a kid and just have fun being 16!!
If they are recurring cysts, it seems to me that I would rather have one last pain than have one every three months. And yes, you can still have kids with only one ovary. Your chances are lessened greatly, but it is still possible.
If you don’t like that option see what other ones he has to offer you!
Good luck, hope you feel better!
My friend is only 14 and has that and she cant have kids. But I promised to carry a baby for her and I would for you too! J/k, but I bet you could sucker one of your friends into it.
