Causes and effects of ovarian cysts?

My mother, 2 aunts, and a good number of 1st cousins have all had to have hysterectomies because of large cysts (not sure if uterine or ovarian). What is my risk for this? Also, how would one go about finding the cause of this? They all lived in the same house at one time; could there be an environmental cause? Or is it genetic?

Difficult to say–one would need more information about the cysts to be able to tell. You can see a gynecoloist and ask him/her that question. You can also reduce risks of cysts by being on birth control pills.
