Hair Loss Uk Forum

Why rearch is vital when you have a hair transplant procedure
My story begins with an account of my hair transplant procedures very poor had a very famous hair clinic in the UK.
When I was young and naive 22 I had my hair transplant for the first time in my local clinic ht in West Yorkshire.
Around 1997 I found an ad in a men's magazine for this clinic, and decided after reading this that the place sounded fantastic. It claimed that the state of the art with experienced surgeons around the world, claiming to be leaders in the field of hair restoration and said they were behind other clinics. Wow to bad i have to have a consultation, because at this point I was struggling to cope with the loss of my hair, I was only 22 years and felt as if my whole world was coming to an end and that no one could love with a bald head. So I called and arranged a consultation.for the following week.
I came to my office and was surprised to discover that this place was not a state of the art clinic, but only three rooms on the back of NHS doctors surgery. I was shown into a small room and told to sit, a man told me to remove his hat and looked my hair (which to be honest weakened a bit, but looking back it was not really so bad at this stage). It was obvious I was losing my hair, but still had a heap, the man said he could help me and told me I was a perfect candidate for a hair transplant, also said that soon there would be a perfect head hair again.
I asked how much i loved this procedure would cost. He replied that because I need about 1500 grafts throughout my hair to swell back up in 1500 would be three pounds. Then he told me in a somewhat aggressive we are too busy to do what you want or what?. Was a bit surprised by this, but the thoughts of a perfect head of hair ringing in my ears, so I agreed. He then said he would need a deposit of 1500 at the end of the week and told me to book surgery next week and I had to pay the balance.
That was all there was no mention of any side effect, no mention of any risk, without mention of aftercare, no mention of the competence of surgeons, qualification, experience, etc and of course does not mention a horrible scar on the back of my head.
The consultation was primarily in about 5 minutes, and because I was only 22 young and naive I thought that this was normal and I was thrilled. When the day of surgery he asked me immediately as soon as I sat for the money, the man was then front of me appeared in a terrible mood. As soon as he had finished counting when he looked up and smiled and led me to a small room where a young lady washed my hair, I was told then sit in a chair in another room that looked like a dental surgery.
I was asked then to sign a consent form and told not to worry, then I got a shot in the finger to numb my head and told me to relax my head were anesthetized at any time. Then the surgeon came in and started to remove hair from the back of the head to be placed in the top of my head then This took about five minutes and does not hurt at all, due to the anesthetic.
Then began the insertion of the grafts at the top of my head and let me say that this was the worst pain I had in my life. It started out as just an uncomfortable pain, but after an hour or so I told him it was absolutely unbearable the doctor that was really painful, but just laughed and said it wont be long and told me to think of all the hair I would have. I had no choice but to endure, was horrible and all the blood in the operation only five hours he ran down my face and neck was terrible, but he kept saying, do not worry about their normal, `Ve just got a sensitive scalp.
When the operation was over they said I had to get up and go sit in a waiting room for a couple minutes, to my surprise, the doctor then said goodbye and went home I was on my own with two female assistants. I was told my stitches that dissolve on their own in a couple of weeks and gave me some fellow codamol for pain, at this point I did not know I had any stitches. They also gave me a letter with postoperative instructions it was about half a page long and consisted of washing, etc. Following the instructions 10 minutes opened the back door and said goodbye leaving me to take home des geared towards the 10th minute after a five-hour operation.
Over the next few weeks I had problems with pain, but I was excited and could not wait for my new hair grows. My head was very sore and covered with scabs with hair slightly bulging. I was told before surgery that I was paying to 1500 grafts, but to be honest, I only received about 250 and the next six months, which was confirmed as only a small number hairs appeared on my head, and I can add that it was very unnatural hair like a little doll. Most worrying though for me is that I have suffered the loss of something called shock that I have now discovered is common, but I was not warned or told anything about this before my surgery.
The shock is the loss where the rest of your normal style becomes shocked by new transplants are placed next to them and fall off leaving only the transplanted hair usually only left temporary, but in my case was permanent. So in effect I had paid 3500 pounds for 1500 new hair, was about 250 hundred new hair and old hair loss. So I was much worse after surgery than before I had the operation (and much poorer as well.) Now he was in a situation where I could not even go outside without a hat and I was forced to get another hair transplant to add a little hair on my head, because I only there were about 250 hairs on the top of my head and broke my confidence and I started to save for the second round.
In 2000 known God for that I came to the clinic to another query then say I need another 1500 grafts, but because it had been before said that only cost 1500 pounds. Also advised me to take finesteride and said he would give me a source of twelve months for anything with the price of the surgery, I said it would stop any further loss of hair and gave me enough pills to last six months and said he had to return for the rest when I was finished. I contacted them when I did run and refused to give me.
I had my second surgery later that week was very similar to the first except that this was not a painful it shows only that the first operations anesthesia is not administered correctly.
Over the next few months although I have experienced terrible headaches on a daily basis, not at all as the first Transplantation of these headaches and relieve not start until about eight months after the procedure. At the same time as the headaches I had the numbness in the back of my head, which took months to ease, but even today I have still a part dormant in the back of my head right to me this is probably nerve damage. The growth rate was much the same as the first op and now after paying 3000 hairs at a cost of five thousand pounds I have about 500.
Since 2000, I suffered attacks of mental health problems ie depression anxiety, panic attacks were so severe that I've been admitted the hospital, ive had bouts of agoraphobia and have been in many types of antidepressants which i am still taking to this all day because he was the processing and results of this consultation. I've also go two three-inch scars on the back of my head that keeps me shave his head and so ugly that I have to keep them covered.
After the surgeon has shook I took a small amount of comfort in the fact that the clinic would closed.but after reading the forums about the loss net i have hair to my horror discovered that still exist and have gone many satisfied patients sound as if they were the same as always, there are lots and lots of posts in patients who are about how people have been defaced, and cheated by the Norton clinic and surgeons and unscrupulous sellers.
Please, Please, if you are thinking of going to this clinic CARE, ask to meet former patients and ask lots of questions because if they are the same as when I went you could be making the biggest mistake of your life, take care of someone who knows first-hand experience
Before having a height do some research and check out to surgeons in all forums different hair a good starting point would www.hairtransplantexperiences forum, and please do not let travel be the deciding factor, because the results good or bad is going to last a lifetime. Check out the medical websites and look at all the negative comments on the internet just google the name of the hair and clinics or find information
The next section describes a resource that was created as a forum for hair loss called hairtransplantexperiences.com (Formally the hair PB) to raise money to help fix my horrible situation, the case was called Project Bullitnut.
I am a valuable member in all forums to give advice, I always try my best to help people make an educated decision on the transplant, my goal is to prevent people making the same mistakes I did and to ensure that your height will not regret it in the next few years as I did with my clinic.

The next part of my story awesome to restore hair and details the life of my trip to Shapiro Medical Group in the U.S.
Here is the story of my hair loss program repair with Shapiro medical group in Minnesota
I'm going to go into detail to help all newcomers and patients the UK planning on going to the United States
Firstly I live in the UK in West Yorkshire so I booked my flights from Manchester and this was my big nearest airport. I booked my flights with KLM airlines that have partnered with Northwest airlines.
Flying to United States regularly from all UK airports.
The flight cost around £ 450 return (thanks tubs) and a one-stop connection in Amsterdam before flying to MSP Airport in Minneapolis. The flights they were very comfortable, and even stops the connection in Amsterdam, was very easy to make and simple. To be honest this was a major concern for me as id just moved to Paris, but trust me it was a piece of cake! The flight to Amsterdam was Fifty minutes later the flight to MSP took 9 ½ hours, but this seemed to go pretty fast since there was a wide range of in-flight entertainment with TV screens in the headrests.
When I arrived at MSP airport that was collected by the hotel bus Janna clinical operations manager at Shapiro Medical Group had kindly arranged for me as she knew how much I was nervous to fly and how inexperienced I was, like me only had traveled to France before. This was a huge weight off my mind as his terrifying being in a foreign country without the added concern of finding your hotel. .
Janna had booked my hotel for me earlier in the period prior to surgery and I'm hopeless with anything like that was very useful. The hotel recommends reserving and was the Country Inn and Suites in Bloomington and I was very impressed with his recommendation that the hotel was great
When the bus dropped me at the hotel just I could not believe the place was spotless and the staff were warm and friendly and always so useful (to be honest it was a shock as UK hotels are generally poor). The room was equipped with flat screen TV with lots of channels and pay movies, which had all the essential amenities such as hair dryers, etc. iron kettle, and even had free wireless Internet access in every room that was cold as I brought my laptop.
There was also breakfast believe me free I took as they were out of this world lol ..
Monday morning I have the shuttle bus from the hotel to take me to SMG and I do not care admit that I was absolutely terrified after id had previous transplants. I have spent most of the night in the bathroom, but reassured me Janna so bless SMG soon as I got was very nice!.
As soon as I got after i Janna meeting was relaxed while she was a wonderful person with heat man and knew exactly what to say to put me at ease immediately
Then he introduced Dr. Shapiro greeted me with a handshake and welcomed me to her clinic right away all my fears disappeared because the guy was one of the most gentle, kind-hearted gentleman that I had the pleasure of actually meeting took has my hair loss concerns and was very passionate about helping me it was obvious from the get go this guy was going to do his best to improve my situation.
First reviewed my donor hair, the laxity and the recipient site. Then he took a bunch of pictures of all sides, then uploaded these on a computer screen, so I could see my hair loss from all angles. After this he asked what I most hated and what you hope to achieve.
We discussed the options and procedure for an hour. He was very thorough and answered all my questions and concerns and really took into account what he was saying. For me it was clearly Clearly the man had my best interests at heart, there was absolutely no pressure or running to get into the chair that I wanted to get the plan of attack just before the start.
Then he showed me what he thought would be the best plan of attack based on their knowledge and my desire for drawing diagrams in the head and go through the whole process step by step explain all aspects of the impending surgery. I was more than happy to go with your suggestions, since they were exactly what I was expecting of my goals and hit the mark completely. So we agreed on the approach and brought me to the procedure room where it was introduced worldwide.
This time it was happy as all members of staff greeted me warmly I felt like a VIP and I could not have been more comfortable to all technicians were very friendly and happy and making jokes mostly to make me comfortable. All in all I have to say that Dr. Ron Shapiro and Paul must have had the labor force friendly I've found my whole life ahead.
Then I was told to wear a hospital gown ready for the procedure to do this as his advisor came Matt Zupan and introduced himself to me again and again what a nice guy who was funny and smart and very nice like the other staff members who asked me if he was comfortable and laughed at my name Bullitnut forum.
They put me in a chair and not as a dentists chair and gave me a special vibrating anesthetic machine that was placed on the forehead to numb the scalp. This was a great feeling I never felt any pain as the only zero strange feeling occasionally, but this was normal and nothing to worry about. I can honestly say hand on heart that anesthesia was nowhere near as bad as that given to a dentist and I am a coward, so if it hurts id be the first to complain lol.
I was placed face down on the chair with his chin on a headrest for Dr. Shapiro could remove my strip. Again, this was completely painless and to be honest, almost fell asleep as I was very comfortable lying there and foolishly had had little sleep the night before, due to unnecessary worry. After the strip was removed technicians to start the cut, while I was being stitched up.
Dr. Shapiro then told me he had got rid of most of my previous poor scar, which was great and I almost began to mourn me lol soft grass. Then he began to make the incisions for my new hair counting aloud Janna everyone so we knew how many there were. When about 90% of the incisions were made, ink used a target in my area to see the cuts better. They saved about 10% of the grafts to be used for fine tuning at the end. They also were taking the estimates of how many grafts were expected every half hour or so.
Janna and technicians from others then began to grow with Dr. Shapiro control all the time he was very thorough and almost always far away, while they were doing this. They planted in a rotation so that each technology will not feel too tired. It was evident that they had all been there working together for many years, and they were like a well oiled machine working in harmony with others was very impressive to see.
During surgery I was given Valium to help me relax and offers a selection of DVD's for viewing on a flat screen TV before me, the whole experience was so relaxed that he almost fell asleep on several occasions and had to fight to keep his eyes open, sometimes lol.
I can honestly say however, that throughout the whole procedure I felt a little pain, and I was told that if I did to tell so they could manage more anesthetic.
This lasted from 8:00 until about 17:00 with a break in the middle for lunch is a lovely complimentary pizza NervousNelly, thanks!.
They also told me that if I ever needed to go to the bathroom just to ask and I could go, what I did in a couple of times and both times it was technical escort this charming very careful to make sure it was OK, because the medication, the overall level of care shown throughout was simply outstanding. The guys who work at SMG should be very proud of themselves as they do an excellent job and really know how to make someone feel welcome and take care of them.
During the surgery, I was offered drinks regularly it was a good gesture as you can imagine sitting in a chair that time who are concerned and a good drink now when easing.
When most of the grafts were placed Dr. Shapiro and Janna began to refine the hairline with the last batch of grafts to refine the work and really did not have time to make sure that this was fine and as planned from the beginning.
After surgery Tom ended one of the coaches a great guy went through all the aftercare instructions and gave me a bag of painkillers and some gauze pads, sprays and antibiotic cream GraftCyte was very thorough with the instructions and made sure I understood what was good thanks Tom!.
I was then given something to eat and drink before saying goodbye everyone and thanked Dr. Shapiro for all the work he had done, Janna then asked if I was happy with the results and am not ashamed to admit that although I am 34yrs old man brought tears to my eyes when I looked in the mirror.
After surgery I went back to the hotel on the complimentary shuttle bus was very hand and the driver was great, the hotel was just minutes from SMG for the trip only took a short time.
I was told to come back the day after surgery for a shampoo that could instruct me on how to properly do so. The free shuttle bus picked me up again the next day and when I arrived Janna introduced me to a technician, who was also a barber named Sue. He said he would cut my hair after washing Janna had me and she made a great work as it looked much better when the sides were cut to match the new hair graft.
Afterwords Dr. Shapiro took some photos and footage video of my results, I asked if I was happy and told me in ecstasy.
The city itself was great for exploring and it was beautiful and worlds apart from anything we have here in the UK, I was mesmerized by all the tall buildings and how clean the place was also the people there were so courteous and polite it was like something of a dream led to the city and its definitely a place id visit again.
I realize this has been a long thread, but I think after surgery ive been poor in the past I owe everyone who has supported me in the forums to tell you how happy and grateful I am. Right now I feel like a kid in a candy store and I would like to say a big heartfelt thanks to Dr. Shapiro for all your hard work and dedication in making my dreams come true.
You really are greatest man I've ever met in my life you were born with a gift and I'm so glad I have the pleasure of using it in me, in my humble opinion on the basis of all research I made before you agreed to do pro bono work and my own experience ive had with you, you are definitely the hair transplant surgeon largest on the planet today day and hence in what has become a good friend and id wish all the best for the future.
I also want to thank Janna, which is just an amazing woman which patients best interests in mind 100% of the time out of his way every day I was in Minnesota to help me and so I am and always will be eternally thankful that you are the best J
SMG ROCK !!!!!!!!
I realize people may think that possibly I am just writing this article and say good things about SMG as ive had a repair there, but I think it is important to emphasize that the hand on heart i's treatment of the GSM was absolutely unbeatable.
They took care of me every step of this project and were always there to answer any questions I had. His entire staff bent backwards to accommodate and I were really a great group of people to each one of them.
They were very professional and very caring and could immediately see that Dr. Ron Shapiro really knew what he meant, as soon as i talked to him, I'm convinced it really is at the top level of the game and I would not hesitate a little to recommend Dr. Paul himself or anyone.
Overall, I'm walking on air at the moment thanks to all who contributed to this repair project. The fact that SMG and guys on the forums of some hair loss that I've never met before in my life have helped me get my life means a lot to me I can not describe just how grateful I am and I am really glad I found the hair loss forums and come across people like SMG, Spencer, BigMac, PB, Tim United Kingdom, tubs, nervous Nelly and all the other great people who have contributed.
Best wishes to all who supported me I'm going to bed now as I am very tired and looking forward to dream about using a comb for the first time in eight years lol
I'd also say a big thanks to PB and started BigMac whole project for me. Your the best players I owe you big time
