Hair Loss Female

The causes of hair loss? Female, 18 years?
I have a friend who has a bald patch at the crown of the head, and seems to be getting bigger. What could be??? I'm worried about her because she never looks very good. She is 18.
The hair falls out in patches and is usually caused by a common genetic trait. Hair loss from poor general health, does not occur in patches. If it is not genetic, it may have iron deficiency anemia – the individuals with no appear healthy, or could have a thyroid problem. She really needs to get a panel of blood tests to determine the cause. The non-genetic causes are treatable.
