How could they do extensions with locks of human hair?

I have seen many websites that sell real human hair, by the ponytail, and I was wondering if there was a way of actually using them to make hair extensions? I understand most Extensions are made of hair already on a grid, but is it possible to do without it? I understand that it would consume more difficult, Messier, and likely take time, but I want to try anyway. Any suggestions please?

I went for an extension of color in my real hair and real hair. I think what they do is they take the lock of hair that is underway for an extension and put this plastic thing like the end of a shoelace on it so its kind of like a chain thing. Then, to put on a person to take a bit of persona real hair comb so its not messy, then take the black pearl and C on their hair. Then they take the extension and somehow it clip the ball on the hair person. Finally, I think they take a kind of glue f and close to the root of the extension so it remains.
